How an AI curriculum can prepare students for the future

Technology is developing fast. With the evolving fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Science (CS), prominent changes will be seen in all aspects of life, including education. Both the call for knowledge and the way we teach will be different. How can we prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s challenges?

The increasing importance of AI

AI is a cornerstone of the fourth industrial revolution. It already affects our lives - from the way we shop, how we communicate, how we drive vehicles, to our healthcare procedure. Growth in AI can generate 58 million new jobs over the next few years, according to the World Economic Forum. On the same subject, Economic Modeling Specialists International predicts that employment in the STEM fields will rise with 13 per cent by 2027. Yet, the gap continues; while there are around 300,000 AI experts globally, there are millions of positions that need to be filled. The supply of people with knowledge in AI does not match the demand, resulting in some of the highest paying jobs overall.

How can AI education be introduced in secondary schools?

The solution to this divide can be initiated in the classroom. The importance of educating learners on how to be not only consumers of AI but also creators from an early age is apparent.

While many STEM programmes focus on coding and robotics, secondary school education requires curriculums and instruments to teach the complete range of AI concepts. This is to truly prepare children for 21st-century educational and job-related requirements. These ideas include visual recognition, landmark-based navigation, object manipulation, facial recognition and expression, voice generation, and speech recognition.

To facilitate the implementation, educators must be able to manage obstacles such as time, the economical aspect, and lack of knowledge, which often hinder the adoption of fresh instruments. Quick and dynamic action today is crucial for utilising the whole potential of AI.

AI Academy

One opportunity is AI Academy that already helps students to become the first AI-prepared generation. AI Academy assists learners to gain a greater understanding of AI's main ideas by actively exploring real-world problems and team-based problem-solving.

With a curriculum ranging from introductory programming in Scratch to advanced courses in Machine Learning through Python and Tensorflow, students obtain useful knowledge that is not found in today’s ordinary education system. These highly demanded skills can be a major advantage in further education and on the job market.

As part of leveraging education to the future’s standard, AI Academy provides formal teacher training to assist educators in teaching AI concepts and courses.

As the academic landscape continues to develop, the focus on AI will play an eminent role in today’s children’s education. By implementing a broad AI curriculum, educators and students are prepared for the future’s demands.
